Women’s day is celebrated in South Africa on the 9th of August. The day commemorates the march of 20 000 women in 1956 to the Union Buildings in Pretoria where they were petitioning against the country’s laws that if you are a person of colour you were required to carry paperwork, known as a pass, to control segregation during apartheid.
